TRAINING SESSION
✓ The basics and advanced fundamentals every marketer needs
✓ The key metrics to track: Inbox Reach, IPR, SPR, SCC & SCR, Inbox Impressions
✓ Where to start & how you can perform your own deliverability audit
The absolutes of deliverability
The fundamentals every professional needs in their toolkit - minus the recycled info and the overwhelm.
We'll cover what deliverability is, how inboxes decide whether to trust you, and what affects whether your emails land.
Deliverability metrics
The numbers you MUST be tracking - including Inbox Reach, Inbox Placement Rate (IPR), Spam Placement Rate (SPR), Spam Complaint Count & Rate (SCC & SCR), and Inbox Impressions. We'll go through what each one is!
How to read those numbers
What is a normal spam placement rate? How do you know when you're in trouble? We'll cover how to interpret your numbers, what "normal" actually looks like, and how to spot a warning sign early, so the data becomes something you can act on rather than just stare at.
Where to start (and how to audit your own)
You'll leave with a clear starting point — including a simple explanation of how to begin performing your own deliverability audit. And if you want to take it further, I'll tell you more about my Email Deliverability Certification Programme, which walks you through the full process step by step.
Skip this session and get deliverability certified
Take the full step-by-step path to getting email deliverability certified. The Email Deliverability Certification Programme is a self-paced course that teaches you to audit, fix and manage your own email deliverability — using the same six-step process behind astral's client audits.
Very informative
"I didn't know deliver rate and deliverability were completely separate! I found the session very informative, and it's definitely going to improve my email marketing performance."
Georgia Streeter Digital Marketing Executive at AeroCloud
Clear and practical advice
"The most valuable part of the session was the clear and practical advice on improving email deliverability and understanding the key factors that affect inbox placement. The examples and recommendations were easy to relate to and apply. What I loved most was the engaging and informative delivery. Beth created an open environment for learning, making a complex topic both accessible and relevant to our work"
Anette Averud
So much wisdom!
"I liked the ability to answer specific questions in the Q&A and how you made the time to actually answer all of them (including mine!) The session was filled with so much wisdom and actionable things to do rather than just selling your services which I really appreciated too."
Hannah Prestwood Marketing Manager at Latte
Real aspects of deliverability
"You touched every option that really matters to deliverability. Not kind of a formula like 7 ways you can fix deliverability. It presents the real aspects of email deliverability."
Siddiqur Rahman
Thank you
"Not-so-obvious insights included the fact that Sender Score doesn't matter and that each ESP has its own reputation scoring system. Another important takeaway was that Inbox Placement Rate (IPR) should be measured separately for each ESP. I also learned that IPR cannot be reliably assessed based on a single test or even a few tests; it requires consistent, methodical testing over a longer period of time. Thank you"
Marta Komar
Usable insights and actions
"I took so much away from it! Actual usable insights and actions - rather than just definitions of what deliverability is. You really packed the hour full and it felt more advanced/suitable to what I needed at my level than other training courses I've done. So useful!"

- Lauren Bean Marketing Ops & Demand Gen Director, Centrical
“The session covered all the fundamental areas to give you a really good understanding, even if you had no previous knowledge. I found it really easy to digest and super valuable, and came away with some immediate actions and knowledge I can use."
- Rachael Burns Digital Marketing Manager at Capital HB
“I didn't know deliver rate and deliverability were completely separate! I found the session very informative and it's definitely going to improve my email marketing performance."
- Georgia Streeter, Digital Marketing Executive at AeroCloud
“Covered all the deliverability essentials and was great to have expert confirm there is guarantee of deliverability score - but we need to follow best practices. Often too much time going into review deliverability scores on ESP or third parties"

Email deliverability session: FAQs
Is the email deliverability training really free?
Yes, completely free. You also get my Email Deliverability Guide when you register. It’s a full reference on the terms, metrics and tools that decide whether you reach the inbox.
Is this a recorded webinar?
No. It’s live online training, run every month, with morning and afternoon sessions on UK time. It’s 60 minutes of teaching plus Q&A, so you can ask about your own setup. Join from anywhere.
How long is it?
One hour! Q&A for 10 mins if you want to stay over.
What metrics will you cover?
The key deliverability metrics every marketer should track: Inbox Reach, Inbox Placement Rate (IPR), Spam Placement Rate (SPR), Spam Complaint Count & Rate (SCC & SCR), and Inbox Impressions — and crucially, what each one actually tells you.
Do I need to be technical to follow it?
Not at all. Everything is explained in easy to understand simple ways.
What if I can't make it live?
Book a session you can. I don't send recordings to people who don't turn up, because they go unwatched and they can't answer a question about your specific setup. Live is where the value is!!
Will this help me fix my deliverability?
This session gives you the fundamentals and shows you what to track and where to start. For the full step-by-step process — auditing, fixing and optimising — that's what the Email Deliverability Certification Programme covers, and I'll tell you more on the day.
What is email deliverability?
Whether your emails reach the inbox, rather than spam, a tab nobody checks, or nowhere at all. It’s not one metric. It’s an ongoing condition shaped by your authentication, sender reputation, data quality, sending behaviour and engagement.

Why are my emails going to spam?
It’s usually a combination of things: authentication gaps (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), weak sender reputation, low engagement, poor data quality or sudden changes in volume. It’s rarely one thing, which is why finding the root cause beats guessing.
Is deliverability the same as delivery rate?
No. Delivery rate only means the receiving server accepted your email. It can still land in spam and count as “delivered”. A 99% delivery rate with 40% landing in spam is a crisis your ESP won’t show you.

How do I check my email deliverability?
With inbox placement testing and a full audit. You send to seed lists across Gmail, Microsoft, Yahoo and corporate filters, and measure the results per provider over time. One test is a snapshot, not the full picture. Add Google Postmaster Tools for your Gmail data! Plus the other 5 steps in my Email Deliverability Audit.
What is a normal spam placement rate?
As close to zero as possible, but up to around 15% can be normal. What matters is your rate per provider and how it trends over time. We go through how to read yours in the session.
What spam complaint rate is too high?
Google recommends staying below 0.1%, and above 0.3% you risk significant filtering. On a small list, watch the count too: send to 1,000 people and a single complaint already puts you at 0.1%.
Do spam trigger words affect deliverability?
No, that’s a myth. Modern filters use machine learning and engagement, not keyword lists. What matters is what your content causes: broken links, URL shorteners, image-heavy emails, poor HTML and emails nobody engages with. But they do have high risk category words, so if you have poor reputation and use high-risk category words, this could just increase the chances of going to spam.

Does a high open rate mean good deliverability?
Not reliably. Apple Mail Privacy Protection fires opens automatically, and security tools inflate clicks. Treat opens as a signal, not proof. Inbox placement testing tells you where you land.
How do I fix bad deliverability?
Stop, diagnose, prioritise, then act. Throwing quick fixes at it without finding the root cause usually makes things worse. The fix could be in your authentication, reputation, data hygiene or sending behaviour.

If I’m compliant, is my deliverability fine?
No. Compliance is the legal floor, not a deliverability strategy. Inbox providers judge your behaviour and engagement, not whether you ticked the GDPR boxes.
